R.J. Grondin & Sons was the successful bidder on three of the Maine Turnpike widening projects, totaling over $27 million of work in three years. We added a third lane and a twelve foot wide shoulder to the mainline for the eleven miles between Saco and Kennebunk, as well as rebuilding the Biddeford interchange. Our crews moved over half a million cubic yards of material and worked tens of thousands of hours without a lost time injury. Safety innovations included the first use of pace vehicles to control traffic speeds through the work zone in New England.
Many Maine contracting firms worked closely together to complete the five year, $135 million total project on time, under budget, safely and with a minimum impact to the travelling public. Along with several other Maine contractors, we are proud to be part of the team that earned the Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Award from AGC of America, a first for Maine contractors.
