RJ Grondin & Sons was the winning bidder for the earthwork on the new 135,000 square foot Middle School on Stroudwater Street in Westbrook, Maine. Our scope of work on the 65 acre site included all earthwork, drainage, water, sewer, paving, irrigation, ball fields, and offsite improvements. Despite many delays – including 2 acres of the site that could not be disturbed until the Maine Historical Society had completed their archeological dig – we were able to meet our deadlines and stay within budget.
One unique challenge to the job was upgrading a rare 24” tin water main for the Portland Water District that was installed in 1876. A lot of preparation and coordination was required to ensure uninterrupted service to the District’s customers in the Greater Portland area.
